3 Red Flags That Indicate Your Dog Has a Gut Problem
Did you know that the 2nd leading cause of vet visits among dogs is due to gastrointestinal and/or related issues? This fact is the reason why we pet owners should keep our noses out for potential threats that may affect our dog's tummy health, especially because most gut-related symptoms are hard to spot.
Here are 3 possible signs that may indicate your dog has a tummy problem:
-
Runny Nose
We know our dogs are excellent smellers, they tend to be nosy when it comes to different things and their curiosity would point their noses at almost anything thus making it easy for us to dismiss a runny nose as a typical reaction. But if it happens all too frequently, it may tell something about their health in the gut. An imbalance in gut flora can lead to an immune response, which might manifest as a runny nose. This response is essentially the body's attempt to rid itself of irritants or bacteria, pointing to a potential disturbance in the gut's microbial balance. This is worth keeping your nose on.
-
Watery Eyes
This one’s tricky to keep an eye out for - see what I did there. But on a serious note, it’s easy to tick this off as just another sign of an allergic reaction. But their eyes kept on pooling watery substance around them, they’re tummies could be in trouble. Their bellies house their immune system, so if something goes wrong there, it should be the first thing to keep an eye out for.
-
Gunky Ears
Gunky ears should only be seen as a hygiene issue among our domesticated dogs. Well because they’re taken care of! But if it becomes a concern, there could be something behind it. Imbalances in their gut would mean imbalances to their immune system also - ears included. If regular cleaning doesn’t cut it, maybe it's time to hear the rumble of their tummies regarding their diet.
A runny nose, watery eyes, and gunky ears in your dog might seem small, but they can be signs of a bigger issue with their gut health. By paying attention to these signs and taking action, you can help keep your dog feeling their best.
